Easy Screen Printing

It was time for a new project. As it turns out, it was one the students really loved. Using a very simple screen printing process, students created some unique art using a product called Scratch-A-Print. The first step was to paint a mini canvas a solid color. Next, students picked an image they wanted for their print (line art is best). They then traced the image with a ball-point pen over the Scratch-A-Print screen creating a stencil. Using water-based paints, the paint was forced through the lines of the stencil with a foam brush which transferred it to the mini canvas. The intention was to work with complementary colors. Multiple images can be created from just one screen. In some cases, different color paints were used giving a layered look to the print. Here are some images showing the stages followed by artwork examples.
