Volunteering at reVision Urban Farm

It's that time again when the weather warms up and participants head to reVision Urban Farm to volunteer. It's a great place to be on a nice spring day. The participants are busy doing a variety of tasks at the farm and have a lot of fun giving back to the community. Here is a clip of the farm from last summer.

Easy Screen Printing

It was time for a new project. As it turns out, it was one the students really loved. Using a very simple screen printing process, students created some unique art using a product called Scratch-A-Print. The first step was to paint a mini canvas a solid color. Next, students picked an image they wanted for their print (line art is best). They then traced the image with a ball-point pen over the Scratch-A-Print screen creating a stencil. Using water-based paints, the paint was forced through the lines of the stencil with a foam brush which transferred it to the mini canvas. The intention was to work with complementary colors. Multiple images can be created from just one screen. In some cases, different color paints were used giving a layered look to the print. Here are some images showing the stages followed by artwork examples.

Spring Fling and Flowers!

On Wednesday, students will celebrate spring with special performances at our school's annual Spring Fling show. All of the students have been practicing skits, songs, dances and poetry for their parents, the students and staff. The Access All group has also been creating art to include in the program book. Here is a sampling of the beautiful flower art they made for it.

Cards For Mom

As Mother's Day approaches, students are busy creating lovely cards to sell at the BU Student Union. It so happens that our cards are a favorite buy with BU students. The cards are created using colorful and lively specialty papers, ribbon and other embellishments. Here is a sampling of the beautiful creations Access All students have made.

More Oil Pastel Paintings

As the students keep painting, you'll see what great art they're creating. Look closely and you'll see a shiny background texture on some of the paintings where the paint is more transparent. That is because aluminum foil was placed behind the paintings, done on clear acetate. Some of the same imagery was used a few times by the students giving the final pieces all different looks... very interesting to see the variations on the same subject. You can find this project on the Blick lesson plan link.
