More Oil Pastel Paintings

As the students keep painting, you'll see what great art they're creating. Look closely and you'll see a shiny background texture on some of the paintings where the paint is more transparent. That is because aluminum foil was placed behind the paintings, done on clear acetate. Some of the same imagery was used a few times by the students giving the final pieces all different looks... very interesting to see the variations on the same subject. You can find this project on the Blick lesson plan link.

Students Paint in Oil Pastel

As promised, here are some oil pastel paintings done by our Access All students. Everyone seemed to really enjoy this new (to them) medium and the process of painting with oil pastels.

Subject matter ranged from landscapes to animals to the abstract. All of the students were challenged and everyone learned how to select colors, to paint and blend.

Reverse Oil Pastel Painting

The students of Access All began a new project that will teach them new skills and challenge their creativity. They are working with oil pastels and are painting on clear acetate - two new materials that they have not experimented with yet. The project came from Blick Lesson Plans online catalog for Teachers and Educators - a great resource of art lessons for children of all ages. The idea behind this particular lesson is to give the impression of a stained glass window by adhering foil to the back of the painting. This image is a rough example done by the art teacher. Student paintings will be posted once they have been completed so check back. So far, they are looking really great!

Bookmaking - Notepads

Learning how to make handmade books, for use as notepads, was the next art project for Access All students. Everyone had a good time learning the bookmaking process. A variety of bright specialty paper and ribbon was used for the covers with plain white paper for the inside pages. Three sizes were made for variety (small, medium, large). As you can see here, the results are colorful and funky. Another great item to sell to BU students and staff this month at the BU Union.
